Welcome to Søndag Søndag. We’re fascinated by the special atmosphere of Sundays—the gentle pause at the end of the week, a moment to reflect on what has happened and dream about what’s next. Sundays have their own unique tone, inviting us to dive into memories, expectations, and possibilities. We are a neo-classical duo: Grammy Award-winning film composer Jesper Mechlenburg and classically trained violinist Katrine Grarup Elbo. In 2020 we released our debut album, Søndag til Søndag, receiving wonderful feedback that inspired us to keep exploring and growing. Right now, we’re working on our second album, Planet Nine, recorded in Nils Frahm’s inspiring studio, Saal 3 at Funkhaus in Berlin. Set for release in May 2025, the album represents a significant evolution in our musical journey. While our debut was an intimate exploration of Sundays, Planet Nine reaches further—into the cosmos itself. This time, we’ve found inspiration in contemporary astrophysical theories, such as the intriguing possibility of a ninth, hidden planet in our solar system, perhaps even a tiny black hole orbiting silently at its edge. Like the composers who came before us—Gustav Holst, Erik Satie, John Cage, Rued Langgaard, Philip Glass, and Karlheinz Stockhausen—we’re captivated by the infinite mysteries of the universe, translating wonder into music.
