About

We are Søndag Søndag.

Currently presenting a sensory introduction to In Search of Lost Time, Marcel Proust’s monumental work. Through a blend of music, reading, and conversation, we explore the novel’s central themes, memory, love, time, and perception.

Together with actor Ellen Hillingsø, who reads selected passages, we create a space where literature and music reflect and expand one another. Our musical choices move between our own compositions and works from around 1910, echoing the period of the novel and allowing the material to unfold as a shared, lived experience.

About Søndag Søndag

We are drawn to the particular atmosphere of Sundays, the quiet shift at the end of the week, where reflection and anticipation coexist. It is a space for memory and imagination, where something settles and something new begins.

As a neo-classical duo, we work at the intersection of composition and performance. Jesper Mechlenburg is a Grammy Award-winning film composer, and Katrine Grarup Elbo is a classically trained violinist. In 2020, we released our debut album Søndag til Søndag, which became the starting point for an ongoing exploration of this sonic and emotional landscape.

We are currently working on our second album, Planet Nine, recorded at Saal 3 in Funkhaus, Berlin. The project marks a shift in scale and perspective. Where our first album stayed close to the intimate and familiar, this work reaches outward—towards the unknown.

Our point of departure is contemporary astrophysics and the idea of a hidden ninth planet at the edge of the solar system, possibly even a small black hole. Like many composers before us, we are interested in how the vast and the abstract can be translated into sound. For us, this is not about illustrating the universe, but about creating a sense of wonder—something that opens rather than explains.
